How much is your time worth?

$20 co-pay for a 1 minute doctor's visit -- what's up with that?

Things are going swimmingly!

Yesterday was swim lesson #5 for the Nanna! And she finally looks like she is enjoying it! Her instructors were saying how well she was doing ("We asked her to blow bubbles and she stuck her whole face in with her eyes open!"), but I was just happy to see her with a smile on her face!

The other good news -- the weird, swim-related (we think!) rash didn't occur last night.

Little guppy

So, the Nanna is reluctantly taking swimming lessons.

This is how it went:

I picked her up from pre-school and thought I would get her in her bathing suit there.

Me: "Nanna, do you want to put your bathing suit on and show Miss Carmen?"

The Nanna: "Oh, yes, yes, yes!"

Me: "And then we can go to swim lessons!"

The Nanna: "Nooooo - I don't want swim lessons!" (proceeds to throw herself down on the floor in full tantrum mode)

To avoid a scene at school, I tell her she doesn't have to put on her bathing suit (yet!).

So, on to tactic #2 -- the bribe. I have brought marshmallows -- one of the girls' favorite snacks -- and I tell Nanna in the car that I will give her one if she goes to swim lessons. This does the trick -- bathing suit is now on. Yay!

At the pool, she doesn't want to leave me. The instructors finally pry her away, and amazingly, she hardly cries. Instead, she turns into a silent protester. She may have been forced into that pool, but no way are they going to get her to participate. From my seat on the bleachers, I can see her alternately staring blankly into space or shaking her head no when the instructors ask her to try something. Her legs go to jello when they try to stand her on the ledge; her arms turn into floppy noodles when they try to get her to use them. (What was I thinking signing her up? What a waste of money!)

At the end of the lesson, the instructor is very gracious and says she thinks the Nanna will warm up faster the next time. We'll see!

Welcome!

Time to try blogging again. Last time I tried -- three years ago -- I only managed one entry before I stopped.

Wish me luck! :)
